The Real Me

Lover of words
Spoken and from the page
Inspired by the darker side

Tattooed skin
From Hannibal
To humming birds
Tribute to my kids

Fragile but strong
With a badass heart
Clinched fists

Fueled by music
Brutal and haunting
Metal is in the blood

Another self-portrait in 44 words for dVerse. This time, I wanted to show the real me.

  1. Late to the reading with this, my prompt. Have been off-grid in the Adirondack mountains since Wednesday. Gorgeous muse — these trees, lakes, loons, quiet stars that scream in the sky they’re so bright in the blackest of nights!
So glad I’m back to finish my reading. This is a wonderfully honest portrait that shows two sides — and aren’t we all really multifaceted? The bad-ass heart coupled with the hummingbirds….those birds that hover and nurture and flap those little wings like crazy! They are fierce in their gentle beings.
So nice to meet you here!

    1. Thank you for taking time to read this piece. A little backstory on the hummingbirds: I have a tattoo of two hummingbirds with a ribbon floating across with both my sons’ names. “Hannibal” is another tattoo of Hannibal Lecter. So, yes, I do have two sides! 🙂
