Lying in bed
Clutching my favorite teddy bear
Shivering under the covers
Mommy whispers to me
“Don’t be afraid”

Outside my window
I hear the sounds of crickets
And toads
I hear the constant hooting
Of a barn owl

I hear the call of a wolf
Far in the distance
I hear the fluttering of wings
As a bat finds shelter
Under my window

I hear my mother’s soothing voice
“Don’t be afraid, my love
It’s only nightfall”

  1. I like the last line “I hear my mother’s soothing voice
    “Don’t be afraid, my love
    It’s only nightfall”
It leaves me wondering what horrors could be waiting. Well done!!
